yeah, I think they wanted to please the masses by changing the ending, like being all "devile devil DEVIL" the whole time, and then the networks or PTB were like "Eh...too dark" so they went "Okay, well what if we leave the option open for it to be the game doing it all, or like it all being in his head" :D
