Okay, so when I opened it today, all of my playlists were GONE, along with pretty much all of my music/videos. There are less than 100 songs on there all of a sudden, and NONE of my playlists. When I hooked up the iPod, it said that it was synced with ANOTHER library, and it can only be synced with one at a time. BUT I have never hooked it up to another computer/library so I don't get what happened...

Any advice? Do I have to re-import ALL the music? Dude, that will take forever!!

It said if I re-synced it that I would erase everything on the iPod and replace it with this new library that keeps coming up (sans all my good stuff), so I haven't done that yet, but I want to add more music because I moved my music library onto an external HD, and need to re-import some things.

one thing for future reference is that i suggest you change the settings in itunes to 'manual' adding, if you haven't got that already.

i don't know why all your playlists dissapeared. it's never happened to me. when i disconnect my external harddrive (which has all my music on it) the playlists are still there but nothing will play.

Well see, with manual adding, doesn't it 'erase and readd' the songs each time? So that means I would have to have EVERYTHING hooked up every time?

Yeah, that happened, but nope, the playlists themselves are gone *sigh*

As I understand it, erase and readd' the songs each time is what the syncing option does. It automatically adds to your ipod anything you've got in itunes that the ipod doesn't have.

The manual option keeps everything you've already got on your ipod and allows you to PICK what you want to go on your ipod. Like, only wanting to add one song (instead of the 50 new ones like syncing you do)

The manual option also allows you to take stuff from other people's itunes if you connect up to their computer.

Hmm, okay, I kind of get it now. Man, it is so confusing!

So it will just ADD to it if I manually sync? I thought that was what happened with the automatic sync *sigh* man, this is hard!

Yeah, when I first got an ipod I had to get my brother to explain it to me a couple times.

Not with manual sync, no. You can pick and mix with manual. However, it's a free-for-all with auto sync. That's how I see it.
